JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES
ISSUE, FALL 2006, VOL. 4
As Communication Faculty of Yeditepe University we have reached to 4th issue of Journal of Communication Studies with your supports and contributions. Now, we are pleased to announce the focus subject of the journal as “Identity Politics and Narratives in Media.”
Mainly, the question is that how multiple identities such as cultural, social, national, sexual, hybrid, migrant are voiced in dominant or alternative narratives of media, and how they are shifted in priority and/or reshaped in relation to current global or regional politics.
We are interested in articles, essays, researches and analyses which explore the different forms of narratives in media -commercials, news, films, web sites, games etc. - and new tendencies, debates and conflicts in construction/reconstruction of the identities in local, national or global level.
Scholars involved in narrative theories, film, communication, cultural studies, and politics as such are welcomed.
Related but not limited topics for the inspiration are:
*Reflections of official politics and conflicts with daily life reality
*Possibilities of alternative narratives in dominant media
*Differences within nation, similarities within global
*Dominant tendencies within minorities and Eurocentrism within non-Europeans
*The role of the mode of production and distribution in defining identity
*Prevailing types of stories that “multiple subject positions” produce
*Ethnic identities and conflicts, presentation/representation, inclusion/exclusion within the narrative structures
*Possibilities of universal values in which the diverse identities meet
Proposals for the papers, in not more than 250 words, addressing any aspect of the topic are invited by 22. 09. 2006.
Completed papers should be submitted by 31.10.2006.
The language of the journal is both English and Turkish.

Yeditepe Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi olarak İletişim Çalışmaları Dergisi’nin 4. sayısına sizin katkı ve desteklerinizle ulaşmıştık. Bu sayımızın konusunu “Kimlik Politikaları ve Medya Anlatıları” olarak duyurmaktan mutluluk duyuyoruz.
Kültürel, sosyal, ulusal, cinsel, melez, göçmen gibi çoklu kimliklerin popüler ya da alternatif medyada nasıl seslendirildiği, günümüz bölgesel ve küresel politikalarına bağlı olarak kimliklere verilen önceliklerin anlatılarla nasıl değiştiği ve yeniden şekillendirildiği derginin ana konusunu oluşturmaktadır.
Anlatı kuramları, film, iletişim, kültürel çalışmalar, siyaset gibi çeşitli disiplinlerden gelen ve medyadaki farklı anlatım biçimlerini –reklam, haber, film, web siteleri, oyun vb.- yeni eğilimleri, tartışmaları, politikaları konu edinen makaleler, araştırmalar ve incelemeler bu sayıyı oluşturacaktır.
Yukarıdaki çerçevenin içinde yeralacak olası konular:
*Kültürel kimlik ve anlam üretimi
*Yansıtılan resmi politikaların günlük hayatın gerçekliğiyle çelişkileri
*Ulusal ve popüler medyada alternatif anlatım olanakları
*Alternatif anlatıların hakim anlatılarla içiçe geçmesi
*Ulus içindeki farklılıklar ve küresel benzerlikler
*Azınlıklarda hakim ideoloji ve Avrupalı olmayanlarda Avrupa merkezli bakış açıları
*Üretim ve dağıtım biçimlerinin kimlik tanımlarındaki rolü
*Etnik kimliklerin, çatışmaların, sunumun/ temsilin, içermenin/dışarda bırakmanın anlatım yapılarında biçimlenişi
*Çeşitli kimliklerin birarada olabileceği evrensel değerlerin olanakları
İlgili yazı özetleri, 250 kelimeyi aşmayacak şekilde 22. 09. 2006 tarihine kadar kabul edilecektir.
Tamamlanmış yazılarınsa 29.10.2006 tarihine kadar gönderilmesi beklenmektedir.
Derginin dili Türkçe ve İngilizce’dir.

The third issue of Journal of Communication Studies is now accepting papers on Communication and Gender. In terms of saving time, we would like to receive two copies of the academic work as a word document in rich text format and also as a PDF file ready to be sent to the referees of the coming issue. Before the submission of the papers please check the Guidelines and if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us.
Deadline for the article submissions is extended to July 14th 2006 Friday. You can submit your articles to Res. Assist. Kaan Tasbasi, MA, the assistant editor of the journal: ktasbasi@yeditepe.edu.tr.
Please do not forget to attach the summary of your article (The papers written in English must include an abstract and the title of the article in Turkish as well as the ones written in Turkish must be sent with an abstract and the title of the article in English).
