Prof. Dr. Suat Anar

Prof. Dr. Suat Anar was born in 1947 in Cankiri. After his primary school education in Etimesut Ankara, he graduated from Ankara Gazi High School in 1965, he completed his studies in 1970 at the Ankara University School of Education. Following his graduation, he was successful in the examination for the Ministry of Education-Research, Planning and Coordination Office to become a Vice Specialist. He went to the US the same year when he received a Ministry of Education doctoral scholarship.

Prof. Dr. Suat Anar completed his language education at Georgetown University in 1971. He completed his doctoral studies in Sociology of Education at Maryland University. At the same time, he gave courses in culture, education and research in the same department as an instructor between 1973-1976.

As Prof. Dr. Suat Anar returned to Turkey in 1977, he worked at Hacettepe University Social and Administrative Sciences Faculty as an Instructor and an Assistant Professor. He became Associate Professor in 1982 and became the Education Department Chair and Proxy Chair of Social Studies Institute for Inonu University. In 1984, he became the Vice Dean for Uludag University School of Education. He also took part in the distance education programs of Anadolu University as an instructor and as an author.

In 1989, as he was working as the School of Education, he worked in the School of Education Reorganization Project sponsored by YOK.

In 1992, he started working in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Mimar Sinan University and established the Education Sciences Department. In addition to his Department Chair position, he served as the Dean of the School for a period.

Prof. Dr. Suat Anar was the Vice Chancellor of Mimar Sinan University between 1996-1998. In addition to his administrative and academic work at Mimar Sinan University, Prof. Dr. Suat Anar he gave underaduate and graduate courses in Bosphorus University, Yildiz University, Istanbul Technical University and Marmara University from 1992 until when he retired in 1999.

Prof. Dr. Suat Anar was a consultant to various think-tank organizations regarding sociology and public opinion research and survey techniques and he retired in 1999. He started working at the Communication School of Yeditepe University during the same year. He served as the Vice Dean. He was appointed as the Dean for the school in 2003 and continues his appointment.

Prof. Dr. Suat Anar is married and has two children.

Prof. Dr. Emin Doğan Aydın

Professor Dr. Emin Doğan Aydın received General Certificates from University of Luton in England on Arts (Industrial Graphic Design) in 1966. He has studied on High Mechanical Engineering at Letchworth College of Technology in England between 1966 and 1967; on Programming Technology and Systems Analysis at Control Data Institute, Frankfurt, Germany from 1970 to 1973; on Industrial Engineering at Institute of Tech., USAF University, Ohio, U.S.A. between 1973 and 1974 and on Operations Research at Institute of Business Administration, University of Stockholm, Sweden between 1975and 1976.  Professor Aydın received an MS degree on Informatics with Systems Science in 1980 from Department of Informatics and Systems Science & Cybernetics in The Royal Institute of Technology and University of Stockholm, Sweden and also an MS degree in Administrative Information Processing in Institute of Information Processing and Computer Science, University of Stockholm, Sweden in 1981.  He received his Ph.D. degree in Communications from the Institute of Social Sciences, Marmara University, Istanbul in 1988. He worked as an Associate Professor of Informatics from 1990 to 1993; as an Associate Professor of Informatics & Systems Science from 1993 to 1999 and as Professor of from 2000 to 2002 at Faculty of Communications, Marmara University. Since 2002 he has been working as a Professor of Informatics & Communications at Faculty of Communications at the same he is the Head of Department of Visual Communication Design at Yeditepe University.

Professor Aydın instructs courses related with Informatics and Communication such as The Changing Information Society, Networks and Electronic Data Interchange, Ergonomics in Office Automation, Project Management, Data Processing, Computer Aided Education's, Desktop Publications/Computer Utilization within Journalism, Systems Approach and Systems Analysis/Design and Implementation.

Prof. Dr. Aysel Aziz

Aysel Aziz received her BA from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Foreign Affairs, and her PhD degree from Ankara University, Department of Administrative and Political Sciences. Currently she is a full time professor and Head of Radio, Television and Cinema Department. She is the author of 15 books, Principles of Radio-Television Broadcasting (2005), Political Communication (2005), Research Methodologies and Communication (2002), Radio Broadcasting (2002), Employment of Women in Rural Areas, 30 Years of Television Broadcasting in Turkey (1999), Radio-Television: Legal Regulations (1996), Principles of Electronic Broadcasting (1995), Traditional Culture in Television: Content Analysis of Turkish Television Programmes (1991, together with Nur Betül Çelik, Nilüfer Timisi), Radio Programming (1985), Socialisation and Mass Communication (1982), Education by Radio and Television (1982), The Role of Television in Adult Education (1975), Radio and Broadcasting in Rural (1968). She has more than 60 articles about communication, mass communication, radio-television, research methodologies, gender studies and social issues.

She conducted several research projects, Employment of Women in Rural Areas (1995-1997), Gender Bias in Media (1997), Traditional Culture in Television: Content Analysis of Turkish Television Programmes (1991, together with Nur Betül Çelik, Nilüfer Timisi), Radio Broadcasting in Turkey (1991), Effects of Television on Women Socialisation (1985-1986), NATO and Public Opinion in USA, UK & Turkey.(1978).

Prof. Dr. Ayseli Usluata

Ayseli Usluata received her BA from Istanbul University; her MA from University of Kansas, Lawrence; and her PhD degree from Bogazici University, Istanbul. Currently she's a full professor and Head of Public Relations and Publicity Department teaching: Mass Communication, Communication, Intercultural Communication, Communication Theories. She was a member of the Executive Council of ECA (European Communication Association) between 2003-2005; a member of IAMCR (International Association of Mass ommunication Research) between 1987-1999; she was on the board of ILAD (Communication Research Association) in Turkey in the years 1997-98; and a member of Sietar between 1998 and 2002. She has been a member of ABC (Association of Business Communication) since 1995; She holds the "Abdi Ipekci peace prize" for her article written to promote peace between Greece and Turkey and was the project coordinator of Turkey for the Global Project of Women in Media for the years 1995 and 2000.

She is the author of a book on communication in Turkish (Iletisim 1994;1995); co-author (with M. Martin), of Political Cartoons of Female Power: A comparative Study of Canada and Turkey (2001); co-author (with J. Rosenbaum) of "Shaping the Future of Communication Research in Europe (2005). She contributed chapters to Images of the U.S. Around the World (1998); Communication Research and Media Science in Europe (2003); Multiculturalism: Identity and Otherness (1997); Bilim Politikasi ve Üniversiteler (Politics of Science and Universities) (1997) and Ana Dilde Çocuk Olmak (Being a Child in Mother Tongue) (1998). She has articles published in journals and newspapers both in English and Turkish.

Prof. Dr. R. Mahmut Oktay

Prof. Dr. R. Mahmut Oktay, who graduated from Marmara University Department of Public Administration (BA), Bogaziçi University Department of Public Administration (MA), and Istanbul University Department of Journalism and Public Relations (PhD), entered Marmara University Faculty of Communication as a research assistant in 1984. He became Assistant Professor in 1992, Associate Professor in 1995, and Professor in 2001.

Mahmut Oktay wrote books entitled Introduction to Behavioral Sciences for Communicators (1996-Second Printing in 2000), Communication Methods and Media of the Public Relations Profession (1996), and Public Relations in Politics (2001). His area of expertise includes Communication Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Advertising and Public Relations. He is currently the Chairperson of the Department of Advertising Design and Communication, in the Faculty of Communication.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Izzet Bozkurt

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Izzet Bozkurt graduated in 1988 from Journalism and Public Relations Department, Faculty of Communication in Aegean University. Later he worked two years in Aegean Region Chamber of Industry. In January 1990 he started to work as a research assistant in the Faculty of Communication, Public Relations and Advertising Department, in Aegean University.

Between years 1990 – 1993 Dr. Bozkurt received his first MA degree from Aegean University Social Science Institute, Public Relations and Advertising Main Sciences Department, by presenting his thesis "The Role of Public Relations in the Development of University – Sector Cooperation." Between years 1993 – 1996 by obtaining a scholarship from Higher Education Institute, Dr. Bozkurt accomplished his second MA degree in the field of "Marketing Communication" in Roosevelt University, USA.

In 1999 Dr. Bozkurt took his PhD degree from Aegean University Social Science Institute, Public Relations and Advertising Department, with his thesis "Public Relations Management in the Strategic Planning Process of Integrated Marketing Communication". Same year he received the title of Assistant Professorship. Until October 2000 he continued his duty as an Assistant Professor Doctor in Aegean University, Faculty of Communication, Public Relations and Advertising Department.

Between 2000 and 2004, Dr. Bozkurt had continued his academic career as a Chairman of Public Relations and Advertising Department in Faculty of Communication and Media Studies in Eastern Mediterranean University. In April 2003, Dr. Bozkurt took his Associate Professor Doctor title from Higher Education Institute in Ankara. From September 2004, Dr.Bozkurt has started working as the vice dean and also chairman og Journalisim department at communication faculty of Yeditepe University.

Dr. Bozkurt is the writer of three books named "New Dimension in Marketing Communication," "Integrated Marketing Communication" and "Beyond Advertising and Public Relations" (one of ten writers). He also has many researches and published articles in the field of marketing, marketing communication, strategic creativity in advertising and public relations studies.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Devran

Dr. Yusuf Devran is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Communication, the Yeditepe University, Istanbul, Turkey. He is also the Associate Dean of the same faculty. He graduated from the Faculty of Communication, Ankara University in 1989. After completing his MA in media studies at Gazi University, he attended a HND program at the South Thames College, the Department of Television and Multimedia during 1993-1996. He joined an international television channel in Turkey where he served as the News Director for four years while pursuing his Ph.D. at the Gazi University in Ankara.

Dr. Devran lectures on media analysis techniques, public opinion, semiotic and political communication. He is the author of many publications including a book titled as "Political Campaign Management: message, strategies and tactics."

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayla Kanbur

After graduating from the Department of Philosophy in Istanbul University, she completed her MFA thesis "Poetry and Cinema" in 1999, at the Cinema and Television Department of Marmara University, Turkey. She is presently assistant professor at Yeditepe University, Istanbul, in the School of Communications. She also contributes as a critic for Turkish film publications and is currently member of editorial board of a journal of cinema.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Berrin Yanikkaya

Berrin Yanikkaya was born in 1973. She graduated from University of Ankara, School of Communications, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema in 1995. She received her MA degree from Yeditepe University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema in 1999 with the thesis titled “Women as Television Reporters”, and her Ph.D. degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Institute of Social Sciences Department of General Methodology and Sociology in 2004 with the dissertation titled “Women Voices in The City: Women’s Self Expression through Cultural Products in Istanbul: A Sample Case Rock Music”. She has been working at Yeditepe University since 1997 as a research assistant and then as an instructor; she has been assigned as an assistant professor in 2004 at the same university. She has been instructing courses both at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels related with media and cultural studies, such as Introduction to Communication, Introduction to Mass Communication, Media Analysis, Radio and Television Programming, Media Ethics, Theories of Mass Communication, Cultural Studies, Mass Media and New Paradigms, Special Topics in Media Analysis: Media and Gender. She is also working as a consultant with senior year students on their graduation projects. Her area of academic interest is the crossroads of the media studies, gender studies and cultural studies. She has presented papers in various national and international conferences and also has publications in refereed journals.

Ress. Asst. Kaan Tasbasi, MA

Kaan Tasbasi received his BA degree from Marmara University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism in 1999. He obtained his MA degree from Marmara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Communication Sciences in 2003. He is currently studying on his PhD dissertation at Marmara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Communication Sciences. He has attended PhD courses at University of Oslo, Norway in 2005. At the time being, he is working as a research assistant at Yeditepe University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio-Television and Cinema. He has articles published on books "Cultural Representation Problem in Turkish Pop Music" (2004, together with Bülent Kabas-Cem Pekman), "Music Industry and Image in Turkey after 1990’s" (2004).
