Prof. Dr. Meral SAGIR
Chair
Awareness of the need for a modern and high quality university education in the field of public administration has initiated the establishment of our department in 2004. We are proud to have our first graduates last July. The curriculum of the program is structured on administrative sciences, law and political science courses and supported by courses on economics, sociology, urbanization and environmental issues.
Graduating students are expected to have acquired the necessary background leading to careers in management, civil administration, administrative law, expertise and inspectorates.
Incoming students are evaluated and chosen on the basis of the “equal weights” criterion, emphasizing their performance in mathematics and Turkish on the national “Student Selection and Placement” examination. Double major and major-minor combinations are available for qualified students. In this regard, the double major in law and public administration has aroused great interest. This option has a positive effect on student motivation and raises the quality of education. The Department aims to expand its involvement in the Erasmus Program covering European Universities and the bilateral exchange agreements with American Universities.
The profile of our representative graduate is that of an individual who is not only aware of the technical procedures of Turkish public administration, but also of the social structure of our country. Moreover, she or he is capable of understanding and following up on international developments and able to reason analytically and to verbalize his ideas explicitly and coherently in Turkish and English. Most important of all, she or he has internalized the concept of "public interest", and is capable to compete in the private sector, with a face turned towards the world and a heart turned towards his country.
The departmental staff is composed of one part time and two full time professors, one part time and three full time assistant professors, two graduate assistants and two other teaching staff.
