To reach the above ends, the Department cultivates talents in advertising and develops advertising theories. In addition, it is expected to work with practitioners in the advertising and public relations industry to promote academic research, solve practical problems, maintain the ethics of advertising and public relations so as to meet the needs of the nation and society and realize the ideals of advertising and public relations education.

VISION STATEMENT:
Advertising Design and Communication major focuses on the study of the structure, processes, strategies, aesthetics, functions and effects of advertising process. With this view, the most broad-based program in Yeditepe University and the region, students have the oppurtunity and flexibility to gain skills and knowledge in a wide array of advertising environments. Moreover, study of advertising involvels a strong ptactical content and critical view.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Advertising Design and Communication major is to help students learn the practical application, structure, processes, strategies, aesthetics, responsibilities and effects of the advertising process within integrated marketing communication perspectives.
DEFINITION OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Advertising Design and Communication which was first introduced in the curriculum of 2004-2005 academic year, aims to graduate researchers, creative experts and managers for the advertising sector that is located at the intersection point of arts and sciences. The Department's mission, beyond recruiting high quality professionals, is to help creation of intellectual individuals who believe in the virtues of rational thought, scientific development, and social responsibility.
As the locomotive sector of the economy, the global and national business capacity of advertising is reached to an enormous scope, signaling considerable profit and employment opportunities in the future as well. The advertising sector has also been a school for the sinema industry in the last two decades, and introduced many talented young directors, script writers, producers, and technical personnel to the Turkish sinema. In the pluralistic media system in Turkey after 1990s, advertising industry constituted the income source of television, radio, the written press and the Internet. The advertising companies became one of the most profitable organizations in Turkey, as well as in the global scope.
Yeditepe University, Department of Advertising Design and Communication aims to educate and recruit qualified high standard experts and consultants who are necessitated by the advertising sector in both creative and managerial areas. We are certainly sure that our graduates who are and will be equipped with contemporary science and technology, constitute the new talented members of the advertising society, the number of whom are increasing every day.
The technical and social opportunities of our campus environment, including nice modern architecture, useful and functional facilities, library, cafeterias, sports facilities and areas, student clubs, shops and post office etc., offer an advantageous atmosphere for the education of intellectual, democratic and tolerant individuals of the urban culture which the advertising profession necessitates.
CHARACTERISTICS OF OUR DEPARTMENT
The Advertising curriculum of advertising design and communication program in Yeditepe University is designed to supply knowledge of principles basic to all advertising fields including advertising creativity, advertising design, media planning, advertising research. Therefore, curriculum of the department includes courses in the creative, media, management and research areas, and to provide the best possible background for the advertising graduate.
The department of advertising design and communication emphasizes theory and practice and combines professional training and theory to develop professionals who are creative, know how to bring theory into practice, have ideals, and stress cultural tradition and social responsibilities in the advertising, advertising design, advertising research, marketing and communication fields.
When we look at the basic characteristics of the department, we see that it firstly tries to establish a system for professional practical training. Secondly, because of the fact that the world has become more interdisciplinary and global, the department believes that graduate must be adaptable and flexible as well as proficient. Thirdly, the department assumes that a course system of the program should be based on teacher education and small-sized classes for practical education. Besides these, it's crucial to encourage students to take part in contests and in advertising work. Therefore, focusing on case study and hosting academic symposiums of advertising are the key features for the department.
