Faculty of Engineering and Architecture offers four-year programs in the fields of Architecture, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Food Engineering, Genetics and Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering.
Non-Turkish nationals are encouraged to apply as a special student (non-degree) or as a regular student (through a central examination) or as an exchange student (through inter university agreements). University on campus housing facilities are available.
In the first two years of this undergraduate education, courses in basic sciences and engineering sciences are taken, whereas in the latter two years emphasis is on specialization courses. The specialization courses consist of prescribed departmental and non-departmental courses as well as complementary elective courses. These elective courses, subject to departmental approval, are chosen to complement the students' education according to his/her interests.
During the four undergraduate years, various social science courses, such as law for engineers, financial institutions or humanities, is taken by the student to complement and to enhance the students' university education. In addition, language courses (Turkish, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, etc) are available at all levels.
A University education is much more than education in a profession, it should give the student a vision of life, let him/her choose his/her mission and show him/her the need for life long education. For this purpose, up-to-date programs using modern tools of teaching are provided in small sized classrooms to encourage discussions. Each student is assigned an advisor for academic and administrative purposes. For regular successful students exchange programs with other non-Turkish universities are available.
The Faculty has a good inventory of personal computers for the use of students and all of these are upgraded on a continual basis. The modern laboratory facilities of the Faculty are being built with the view of having hands-on experiments.
In addition to regular undergraduate program, for students with high academic performance, minor and double major programs are available within the faculty and with other faculties. The double major program enables the student to receive another diploma in a program close to his/her original field usually with an extra year of study.
Academic accreditation is an evaluation carried out by objective independent peer groups and indicates high level teaching at that university. All the departments of the Faculty are going through the process and most have already completed and received accreditation. The details can be found in departmental pages. Another indication of academic excellence is the success of our students in national and international competitions and the acceptances received form highly qualified continental and USA universities for M.S and PhD studies.
