1. General Information:

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is designed as an effective and contemporary graduate degree for the professionals at all levels of business. The program, it is for people who wish to further explore their skills and capabilities required for success in their own careers and wish to update and refresh the knowledge and expertise they earned previously.   Program Features:

  • Broad spectrum of and diversified lectures with fact based applications content,
  • High caliber, competent faculty members and instructors who are experts in their fields,
  •  Delivery of lectures on weekdays between 19:30-22:00 and weekends between 09:30-16:00 - appropriate for the working student,
  • Flexibility of "only weekdays", "only weekends" or a hybrid lectures scheduling,
  • Availability of lectures within the university credit system, both in Fall and Spring terms, and some even in Summer term,
  • Supports a participative, interactive and case-based structure

 
 
2. Entrance Requirements   The candidates should have:

  • Four year degree from Turkish University or an equivalent degree received outside of Turkey endorsed by the Higher Education Council (YÖK),
  • A minimum score of 47 (equal weight) from the Turkish Graduate Education Entrance Examination (LES) taken within the last two years, or a minimum score of 55 (equal weight) from the Turkish Academic and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES), 
  • Taken the English proficiency exam given by the institute. Those who receive a passing grade on this exam can directly begin the MBA. Others will be assigned to one of the following levels according to the performance of the candidate on the proficiency exam. These levels are
    • Beginner (One full year)
    • Intermediate (two semesters)
    • Advanced (one semester)
  • TOEFL (min 213) or IELTS (Academic 6,5) can be used as replacement for the Yeditepe University proficiency examination.

 

3. Program Contents

The courses in the program are designed to acquaint students with today's business administration world by focusing on the foundations and challenges of starting, growing and managing businesses in a global environment.
  The philosophy and the structure of the MBA program, with accumulated experience of its highly qualified academic personnel, current and application based content, fully equipped computer labs, library and cooperation with online academic publications content providers, sets the scene, delivers the tools and presents a suitable environment for the advancement of the students.
  Students can major in one or two of the following tracks with the electives properly selected:

  • Accounting
  • Finance and Banking
  • General Management
  • Marketing Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Production and Operations Management
  • International Business
  • Electronic Business

Students may select either "with dissertation" or "without dissertation" program within the regulations of the Social Sciences Institute. Students who have selected the "with dissertation" track should first complete the "Research Methodology" course. These students should present and defend their thesis that they have written in English under the supervision of a thesis consultant appointed by the Board of the Institute, to a jury. Students who selected "without thesis" program   should, instead of a thesis, take the "Graduation Project" course and complete it with success.
 

4. Program Duration:  


The prerequisite courses must be completed within two terms. All the courses must be completed within 6 terms for "with thesis", and within 4 terms for "without thesis", program. The thesis is to be completed within 4 terms for "with thesis" program. In both programs, students may "freeze" the program up to four terms upon the approval of the Board due to acceptable causes. The requests for "freeze" is evaluated for each term. 

The program duration is 12 terms for "with thesis", and 10 terms for "without thesis" program for the ones who are exempt from the prerequisite courses.

5. Program:

For each term (Fall and Spring), in line with the university procedures, students are required to take four courses. With the approval of the Board of the Institution, in certain cases, the number of courses for each term may be either increased or decreased.


Students, who have graduated from Economy and received a "BB" grade, can be exempted from "ECON" coded preparatory courses regardless of which year they have taken the courses.   Students, who have graduated from Business Administration and received a "BB" grade, can be exempted from "BUS" coded preparatory courses regardless of which year they have taken the courses.   Students, who have graduated from Business Administration and taken the listed preparatory courses within 3 years and received a BB or higher grade, can be exempted from both "BUS" and "ECON" coded courses:    BUS 501 Contemporary Management, ECON 501 Foundations of Microeconomics, ECON 502 Foundations of Macroeconomics, BUS 502 Financial Accounting, and BUS 503 Marketing Management.   The preparatory courses must be completed within two terms. Students may either select "with dissertation" or "without dissertation" MBA program after the completion of these courses.   BUS 504 (Business Policy) course has FIN 504 (Corporate Finance) and ACC 508 (Managerial Accounting) courses as prerequisites. BUS 597 (Graduation Project) course should be taken at the final semester of study. 

All students writing a thesis must take MNGT 598 course. Students select their courses and enroll, under the supervision of their advisor, within the first week of each term via internet. "Add/drop" and "withdrawal" cases are exercised within the periods stated in the academic calendar according to the university regulations. Attendance to courses is compulsory and absenteeism cannot exceed 20 %.

In case of failure, core courses must be repeated in the subsequent term. In an elective course failure, a different elective course may be taken.


The minimum requirements for graduation is GPA=2, 50/4, 00. If GPA is lower than that, the courses with a grade of lower than CB, are to be repeated within the period specified by the Higher Education Council (YÖK).

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

PREREQUISITE COURSES :
BUS 501   Contemporary Management
The course aims to give students the basic concepts of the Management Science through which the students will discover the shortest road to be an effective manager. The course covers mainly the following topics: sturcture of the organization psychological perspectives of the organizational analysis and management. The design of the human behavior and organizational performance. At the end of this course, students will learn how to set up an effective communication and motivational system to mobilize the personnel toward the target of the organization. This course is supported by various case studies.  
 
ECON 501   Foundations of Microeconomics
The course presents an overview of microeconomic concepts like scarcity, opportunity cost, marginal analysis, demand, supply and market structures. The primary focus of this course is on how individuals and societies deal with the fundamental economic problem of scarcity. The course begins with a discussion of the methodology of economics and the basic functioning of markets and than individual markets are investigated.
 
ECON 502 Foundations of Macroeconomics
The course presents an overview of macroeconomic concepts like national income accounting, interest rates, real values versus nominal values, monetary and fiscal policy, balance of payments and economic growth. The course has two main objectives. First, the course is designed to acquaint students with the basic knowledge of macroeconomics. Second, to teach students how to apply these basic rules to the real world issues.
 
BUS   502    Financial Accounting
The course focuses on the nature and purpose of accounting, current assets and long-term investments, property, plant and equipment, intangible assets, liability accounts and owner's equity, principal accounting instruments, valuation problems of depreciable assets and liabilities: preparation, analysis and interpretation of financial statements.  
BUS   503    Marketing Management
This course will be concerned with the basic principles of the marketing management: Universal concepts and functions, marketing environment, determining the target market and utilizing the product mix, market segmentation, positoning the product, new product development and reducing its failure rate, the product life cycle, strategies for the four Ps, functions of the marketing communications, advertising, and sales management.
 
CORE COURSES :
ACC   508   Managerial Accounting
This course deals with the use of accounting information for the managerial decision-making. It focuses on preparation of the master budget, flexible budget, standart costing and variance analysis and taking corrective actions. Subjects such as evaluating the overall performance of the company; performance reports, cost-volume-profit relations, breakeven analysis, price bidding anlysis, make-or-buy decision, operating leverage, allocation of service department costs, transfer pricing will covered. Specific topics include the need for planning and control, strategic planning, the resource allocation process, organization of the management control function, measurement of inputs and outputs, pricing government services programming, budgeting, reporting and performance evaluation. Design, implementation and evaluation of management planning and control systems. Public and private sector comparisons.
 
BUS   502   Research Methodology and Data Analysis
The art of management which relies on the use of basic scientific approaches, and aims at reaching the true knowledge. In this respect, research methodology serves as an instrument for gathering, organizing, analyzing and interpreting the data both for theoretical and practical reasons. This course is designed to illustrate the application of research methods and techniques to business decision-making. The course objective is to explain the importance of scientific investigation by emphasizing the empirical approach, measurment, evaluation, and to certain extent, the use of software programs to apply essential statistical techniques for data analysis purposes.
 
FIN   504   Corporate Finance
Introduces and exposes students to corporate financial management; basic investment decision-making techniques and financing decisions both short term (current) and long term. Students will answer what short and long-term investments a firm should take on, how they should be financed. Moreover, students will learn about short and long-term financial planning, valuation of future cash flows, capital budgeting, risk and return, cost of capital, options and corporate structures, mergers and acquisitions. Further topics include risk analysis; capital asset pricing; capital structure and valuation; bankruptcy risk; and cost of capital.
 
BUS    504    Business Policy and Strategic Management
This course covers the definition of strategic management, its basic concepts, strategic management process, establishment of purposes and mission, external and internal analysis, selection of appropriate strategies, development of application plans of functions and administrations, establishment of organizational structure based on these plans, selection of integration and control systems, consistency of strategy with structure and control mechanisms, SWOT analysis and crisis management and evaluation of results with feedback.

 MKT 502  Consumer Behavior: The purpose of the course is to understand the customer with the help of market/consumer research and sciences like psychology, sociology, antropology. Identifying the customer, theoretical aspects of communication, personality and attitude improvement are also covered in the course. The aim is to attract customers.  

MKT 503  Marketing Research: The course covers both sides of marketing research: The researchers doing the research and the marketing executives using the information. The course aims to increase the knowledge of the students with a group project.  

MKT 504 Strategic Marketing: The main topics covered are changing markets, consumers, creating different marketing strategies abd action plans. Procurement, transportation and storage concepts are also covered in the course.  

MKT 505  Brand Management: Main functions of brand management, market analysis, market share analysis, sales team management, communication channel management and marketing mix desicions are the main topics covered in the course.  

MKT 507  International Trade: International trade according to the rules of ICC is covered in the course.  

MKT 508  Retailing Management: The management, development and the operation of retail sector is examined. Strategic desicions like price strategies, actions against factors effecting retail businesses, retail management, retail communication management are the topics.  

MKT 509  Advertising Management: Determining, analysing and managing advertisingstrategies, the role of advertising in marketing, media planning, active and effective advertising, promotion, public reation and sponsorship are covered.  

MKT 510  Customer Relationship Management: The course is designed to provide students with the concepts of identifying and segmenting customers, creating customer spesific plans with the help information technologies.  

MKT 511  Sales Management: Sales is art and science. The purpose of this course is to make the students realize their personal sales skills and sales management profile. The sales process is explained in detail with role plays, individual presentations and team works.  

MKT 512 International Marketing Management: This course is designed for MBA students wanting to deepen their international marketing knowledge. Social and cultural differences among cultures, ways to enter new international markets, political, technological and resource based challenges and opportunities are covered.  

MKT 513 Import and Export Management: International trading techniques, risks and challenges in international trade are covered.  

MKT 514  Internet Marketing: Internet marketing is the cheapest and the most successful way of reaching customers. MGT 502  Organizational Behavior: This course focuses on the study of the behavior of individuals and groups in organizations in order to identify and develop the skills needed to make an effective contribution to organization. Major topics include motivation, conflict and negotiation, group dynamics, leadership, organizational and job design and job satisfaction.  

MGT 503 Corporate Governence: The course aims to explore economic estimations and moral philosophy, ethics in business, corporate citizenship in companies, corporate identity and its importance, corporate management in turkish law, capital markets board of turkey' and OECD's corporate principles.  

MGT 504  Leadership: Main leadership attitutudes, theories and personal leadership skills are tought. The course also coveres topics like improving interpersonal communication and management skills.  

MGT 505  Entrepreunership and Innovation:  Topics like globalization, entrepreunership, entrepreuners, differences and similarities of managers and entrepreuners, entrepreunership in Turkey and in the world, advises to enterpreuner candidates, success stories, risks in entrepeunership, innovations and new ideas are covered.  

MGT 508 Benchmarking: The purpose of this course is to teach students what benchmarking is and its application in Turkey.  

MGT 519  Communication and Conflict Management: The course has three parts. In the first part, the reasons for conflicts are described. In the second part, different solutions to conflicts and behavioral aspects are examined. The final part focuses on making the students create models based on existing concepts.  

MGT 511 Knowledge Management: Methodology, definition and techniques of knowledge management are tought.  

MGT 513  International Business: The purpose is to give general information about international business, internatinal trade and investment. Foreign investments, international finance and marketing, human management and accounting are also covered.  

MNGT 515 Information System Concept for Management: The importance of information systems, collecting, storing and using information correctly, latest improvements in information systems are covered.  

MGT 518 E-Business: This course tries to inform students in the area of business via Internet. Designing web sites, promoting web site, current issues and developments in e-business and Internet marketing will also be included.  

MGT 521 Hospital Management: The course coveres marketing and financial management of hospitals.  

MGT 526  Total Quality Management: Basic concepts and techniques of TQM, quality culture, quality systems, statistical quality control are covered.  

MGT 528  Negotiation Techniques: The main topics of the course are strategies on debates, debate and negotiation processes and styles, persuation techniques and negotiation techniques in specific areas.  

MGT 530  Special Topics in Management: The course intends to give the students information about the solutions and applications of current issues in management.  

HRM 501  Human Resource Management: The objective of this course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts, techniques and practices of human resource management in organizations. Principal human resource management functions such as human resource planning, recruitment, selection, training and development, performance evaluation, compensation and labor relations are the main topics to be discussed
