General Requirements
The Master of Arts Program in Economics is a program designated for full time students offered during the daytime. Applicants to the program are expected to have an undergraduate degree in a discipline from an accredited institution, a satisfactory ALES score and a good command of English. In addition to these minimum requirements, they have to take a competitive exam in economics as described below.
Applicants to the program should provide the following documents in addition to the documents requested by the Institute of Social Sciences. (ISS)
A personal letter (statement of purpose) written by the applicant specifying the reasons for applying to the MA Program,
At least two reference letters,
A resume outlining the applicant's academic background and work experience.
Prerequisites
The MA Program in Economics is open to all graduates regardless of their undergraduate majors. Incoming students may be required to take undergraduate courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics or mathematical economics if their performance on the entrance exam in any of these fields is deemed unsatisfactory.
Credits Transfer
Graduate level credits received from another university accredited by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) and other graduate programs of Yeditepe University may be transferred. However, the grade to be transferred should not be lower than a BB (80/100) and the course should have been taken not more than three calendar years prior to the admission to the program.(Transfer credits cannot exceed 25 per cent of the credits required for graduation in the MA program)
Application Deadlines
The MA Program considers applications for the fall and spring semesters. Applications should be made in April for the fall term and in September for the spring term. All application materials specified above must be submitted before the candidate is considered for admission.
The applicants are expected to pass an entrance exam composed of questions in microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative methods, and mathematical economics before they are called for an interview.
Degree Requirements
- a. Successful completion of the core and field requirements and electives in economics.
Core Requirements: The following are the core requirements for the MA degree: Microeconomics I and II, Macroeconomics I and II, Quantitative Methods (Econometrics I) and Research Methods (Econometrics II)
Electives in Economics: Students may choose any course (shown on the list below) to fulfill their elective requirements. These electives may be used for a field classification.
- b. Completion of course work with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00/4.00.
- c. For the program with thesis, the submission and oral defense of a master's thesis.
