General Information

The Department of Public Relations and Publicity, established in 1996 with Prof. Dr. Ayseli Usluata as the founding Chair, is one of the top choices of students for study today.

With its staff composed of scholars who have proven themselves internationally and of notable figures from the Industry, our Department educates more than 300 students and maintains its successes with its domestic and international activities and awards each year.

What is Public Relations?

Public Relations is a managerial process which includes strategic communication activities organizations perform in order to create and maintain a mutual understanding with their publics/stakeholders.

What is the scope of Public Relations Studies?

As one of the main areas of Communication Sciences, Public Relations researches perceptions, attitudes and expectations in the public opinion, and plans and performs activities according to the objectives depending on research outcomes. It creates and manages corporate identity and corporate image by developing in-house communication tools. It manages media relations for building and maintaining corporate reputation and creates sponsorship and social responsibility projects. Public Relations benefits from various academic disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, social psychology, social anthropology, political sciences and economy, within an interdisciplinary understanding. It adapts the corporate entity to the virtual environment and develops social media applications.   

Public Relations as the Profession of the Future

In contemporary world, the need for people who can think critically and creatively, who can work in teams, who can develop strategies for ordinary and crisis situations, who have face-to-face communication skills and who can use communication technologies efficiently is gradually increasing. In this respect, our Department works within a mission of raising individuals who can solve problems through analytical thinking, and who are productive, creative, self-confident, respectful to the environment and conscious of their social responsibilities. As a Department we are proud of our distinguished graduates who have found domestic and international employment opportunities. And with that mission and vision, we continue prepare successful professionals of the future ready who upon graduation will be able to not only work within the communication sector, global and national companies, but also political institutions, bureaucracy and civil society organizations.
