Yeditepe University, Department of Food Engineering embodies power of various disciplines by the nature of Food Engineering profession. Main objective of the Food Engineering Department is to raise graduates who are equipped with necessary knowledge for basic sciences, basic engineering, food science and food technology, who can use effectively his/her acquired knowledge and skills in such fields as food production, product development, quality control and food control, who are research and development oriented, who have built his/her self-confidence, who adapt him/herself to team work, who are respectful to the ethics of the profession, who are pretty sociable, who are sensitive to the problems of the day, who are aware of the necessity of learning throughout life and who are preferred by public institutions and by universities.
Graduates of the Department of Food Engineering of Yeditepe University will be able to work as managers, operating engineers and laboratory managers in domestic and foreign companies and enterprises which produce and distribute food products. They will also be able to perform their duties in the fields of research and development in food sector, development of materials for food packaging and wrapping, development and application of biotechnology for food production and food safety, providing and controlling food safety, designation of food production and storage facilities and designation of units used in these processes as well as food quality control and food production fields.
The aim of the Food Engineering Department is to raise Food Engineers who are acquainted with modern production technologies, who are willing to be engaged in research and development activities, who have strong foreign language skills and have basic knowledge of engineering instruments, which are necessary qualifications all required by production sectors, mainly by food sector of Turkey. Students who have graduated from this department are equipped with the ultimate knowledge in production processes and the designation, production and utilization of the equipments used in this manner.
As students of all other engineering departments, students of the Food Engineering Department have the opportunity to take courses other than basic lessons, basic engineering lessons and compulsory lessons, which will enable them to guide their individual skills and also create opportunity for them to specialize in Food Engineering
Students in the Food Engineering Department receive 4 years of education. Student quota of the department is 70 students, 10 of whom are awarded success scholarship (100%) and 20 of them are awarded support scholarship (50%). Students with quantitative score are accepted to the department.
