The Hospital with a Low Risk of Infections... Koşuyolu Hospital

With a special molecule which was developed and patented at the Yeditepe University Laboratories we aim at a “zero hospital infection spread" at Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital.

This special molecule, which was completely developed locally, was applied to all materials from the construction stage of the hospital. AS a result, the antimicrobial hospital “Yeditepe University KOŞUYOLU Hospital” was established.

With world class hygiene and technology standards, Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital is built on 35.000 m2 indoors space, it has a capacity of 180 beds, 6 intensive care units, nine operating rooms and nearly 100 expert and academician doctors.

Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital, where a team including brain surgeon of the century Prof. Dr. Gazi Yaşargil and Prof. Dr. Uğur Türe tend to patients, is specialized in neurological sciences and oncology. Areas such as brain surgery, cancer surgery, medical oncology, child bone marrow transplantation, adult bone marrow transplantation, orthopedics, thoracic surgery, ENT, general surgery, gastroenterology, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology are among the strongest branches equipped with the highest technology.

The hospital’s neurosurgical operating room and one of Turkey’s first “3 Tesla Intraoperative MRI device with Magic Software” reduces MR imaging during surgery from 24 minutes to 4 minutes. Multidisciplinary approach diagnosis, treatment, psychological support, diet training, pain treatment, complementary medicine services are offered to Oncology patients. In the high-tech Interventional Radiology unit, many illnesses from aneurysm in the brain to the diabetic foot can be treated.

Founder and Honorary President of Yeditepe University Bedrettin Dalan, who provided information about the antimicrobial hospital concept and the antimicrobial molecule developed by Yeditepe University said “Research shows that approximately fifty percent of deaths after surgery are caused by hospital germ. We focused on solving this problem. We've completely developed a local and nationally produced molecule. We applied this harmless germ-killing boron based molecule from door handles to floor coverings, from electrical outlets to wall paints, and to our furniture and equipment”

“In addition to the molecule we have developed, we started to work in the construction phase because we want to zero hospital infections spread. For example, in our hospital, no walls are cornered, because angular walls will keep germs whether they are cleaned or not. “We have designed all corners as concave or convex so that they can be easily cleaned. This time we have raised the bar in the field of health.”

Pointing out that there are more than 200 laboratories and 500 academicians working at Yeditepe University, he added that the total size of the laboratories is as big as 2 football fields, studies on many serious diseases are continuing, and that the biotechnology and genetic sciences departments are competing with the world's leading universities. Bedrettin Dalan also emphasized the fact that resources for scientific studies are unrestricted and they have accepted patients from more than 100 countries to date.

Bedrettin Dalan also stated that Yeditepe University Hospitals were certified by international health rating organizations and said “In two of Yeditepe’s hospitals we have washable beds, another first in Turkey. After the patient leaves the room, the bed is washed with water at high temperature, disinfected with a special substance, and new patients can use a really clean bed. In addition, there are antimicrobial filters in the ventilation in both hospitals.”
