Hot Chemotherapy Is a New Hope for Advanced Cancer Patients

When Hot Chemotherapy is used in the treatment of intra-abdominal cancers, it can extend the life span of stage-4 patients. Providing important information regarding the subject, Yeditepe University Koşuyolu Hospital Gastroenterology Surgery Specialist Assoc. Prof. Süleyman Orman, MD, MD said, "While 6-12 months of life was predicted for stage-4 cancers in the past, 5-year life expectancy in colon cancers has increased up to 40 percent with Hot Chemotherapy."

Providing information about Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), commonly known as "Hot Chemotherapy", Assoc. Prof. Süleyman Orman, MD pointed out that the procedure is different from normal chemotherapy. “Hot Chemotherapy is a procedure that is applied during the surgery. We apply it in ovarian, large intestine, intraperitoneal, appendix and stomach cancers. In Hot Chemotherapy, we give medication to the appropriate patient for 45 minutes to 2 hours. It is a different treatment approach than normal chemotherapy. Normal chemotherapy is a single form of intravenous chemotherapy."
