Prof. Dr. Ahmet AYDIN
Vice Rector for Academic Affairs

He was born in Nevşehir on 5th March 1966. He graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Pharmacy in 1987. He had a Master of Sciences degree in 1992 and a Ph.D. Degree in 1997 at the Department of Toxicology at Gülhane Military Medical Academy. He became Associate Professor in Toxicology in 1999 and Professor in 2008. He represented the Turkish Army in NATO Working Group on Military Medical Materiel and Military Pharmacy for 10 years.

He started his new career at Yeditepe University in 2010. He attended a number of scientific congresses, symposiums and workshops. He had 117 research papers published at international journals and his papers were cited above 2500 times. He conducted a lot of research projects. His main research topics are oxidative stress, heavy metal toxicity, risk assessment, safety and biocompatibility tests and evaluation of drugs and medical devices. He teaches Toxicology at Faculty of Pharmacy. He is a member of the Turkish Society of Toxicology and EUROTOX. He has rights and honors of European Registered Toxicologist. For the moment, he works for Yeditepe University Faculty of Pharmacy as Head of the Department of Toxicology and Vice-Rector. He is married and has a son.

Prof. Dr. Fatma Yeşim EKİNCİ
Vice Rector

Dr. F. Yesim Ekinci received her BS Degree from Ankara University, Turkey; and MS and Ph.D. Degrees from Clemson University, USA, in the area of Food Science and Microbiology. She did her postdoctoral study between 2001-2002 at the University of California Irvine Microbiology and Molecular Genetic Department. She worked for 5 years at Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta, Turkey, as Assistant Professor. During that time, she has been to INRA, The Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology, Narbonne, France; and to the Department of Food Science, Volcani Research Center, Israel, as Research Scientist. Currently, she is teaching and conducting research at the Food Engineering and Biotechnology Program at Yeditepe University as Professor.

Her research areas mainly focus on analysis of biological activity (antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant) and bioavailability of natural bioactive compounds; characterization of interactions of bioactive compounds with lactic acid bacteria; and development of in vitro human gut model systems; development of innovative and rapid methods in microbiology including early detection, identification, and characterization of foodborne pathogens or human-associated bacteria; production, optimization and mechanism of action of bacteriocins produced by beneficial microorganisms. Prof. Ekinci is a country ambassador to the American Society for Microbiology and advisory board member of the Turkish Food Safety Association. She has received several grants and published peer-reviewed papers in international and national journals and conferences. She presently holds the dual positions of Chairperson of the Department of Food Engineering and Vice President for Research at Yeditepe University.

Prof. Dr. Ş. İpek KARAASLAN
Vice Rector

She was born in 1976 in Kırklareli. She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Kırklareli. In 1998, she graduated from Marmara University, Department of Physics Teaching. In 1999 she completed her master's degree at The University of Liverpool. She received her doctoral degree in 2006 from ITU Energy Institute Nuclear Researches Department. In 2009, she obtained the title of associate professor in the field of "atom, molecule and plasma physics". In 2018 she was awarded the title of Professor of Yeditepe University. She has been an academic staff at Yeditepe University Physics Department since 1999 starting as a research assistant.

She has participated in many scientific congresses, conferences and symposiums. She was also speaking as an invitee. She published 20 articles in international journals. Her main research areas are Molecular Spectroscopy, Monte Carlo simulations of diagnostic and treatment techniques in Nuclear Medicine. She is the director of the medical physics department. She is also holding the position of Vice-Rector at Yeditepe University. She is married with two children.
