Graduate School of Atatürk Principles and Revolution History 3 Because it contains necessary information for the understanding of the history of the Republic, like modernization efforts, reform initiatives, constitutional monarchy period, and constitutions, 19th century Ottoman history forms the main historical background the school focuses on. In order to be able to read and follow the sources of this period and use the archives first-hand, students are given Ottoman language courses for two semesters. Students ' learning in the Ottoman language provides flexibility in the selection of dissertation topics and the academic values of their dissertations and projects is raised because they can reach first-hand sources. One of the lessons given in the two semesters in our school is Political History. Political History lessons help to reveal the basic atmosphere and conjuncture of both recent Ottoman history and Republican history and understand the results of bilateral, regional and international anticipations. Courses at our school were planned to firstly analyze and reveal the process leading to the Republican period and then examine Republican history in all aspects from an in-depth and scientific point. In addition to this, there is a study program that teaches how to efficiently find and eliminate resources, and produce academic work. For this reason, the history of the Modern Ages to the present day mainly forms a study field at our School. Since its inception in 2004, many dissertation and project studies have been completed including these areas. It has been observed that the majority of graduates have chosen the thesis master’s program; however, even though there are also students who chose the non-thesis program, the enthusiasm for conducting research and producing something new has led them to switch to the thesis master’s program. 43 thesis studies have been completed at our school and 31 thesis studies are continuing. Various dissertations that can be collected under a large number titles such as biography, international relations, foreign policy, literature, public order, the press, the population etc. have been written and some of them have been converted into books. Some of our graduate students continue to study at doctorate programs at Yeditepe University or different universities. Master’s Degree education does not only provide one with an in-depth knowledge of a subject, but is also the most important step in preparing a background for doctoral studies and training academicians of the future. Until now, Yeditepe University Graduate School of Atatürk Principles and Revolution History has produced a quality education plan that serves both purposes and educated students accordingly. In order to meet the basic needs of our students at our school, a library consisting of about 1000 books was created and students have the opportunity to study other dissertations sent by other universities.
