About the European Studies Institute

Yeditepe University European Studies Institute offers students an academic environment equipped to develop their ability to learn about and interpret various relations and policies of Europe, the European Union and related countries. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, a curriculum was created which can be followed by the students from different disciplines as well as social and political sciences. The Institute is also an important center which promotes studies and entrepreneurship where EU-supported projects and activities are carried out.

The main aim of our institute is to provide a comprehensive postgraduate education with lectures from various disciplines, expert faculty members and research opportunities provided by the institute.

Why Yeditepe University European Studies Institute?

  • The European Studies Institute creates a multidisciplinary study and work environment for the students. By offering a comprehensive curriculum, it provides students with the opportunity to learn new technologies and methods, and helps them to develop their abilities to interpret current developments in the international arena, respond to current problems and analyze relevant processes.
  • In order to encourage interdisciplinary work and to bring together the information provided by different academic fields, faculty members from various faculties and departments give lectures in different fields. For example, the Institute has courses designed to learn, examine and evaluate the policies of the European Union applied in different fields such as energy, agriculture, digitalization and urban design. These courses provide students with the opportunity to adopt and apply a comparative perspective.
  • The European Studies Institute offers students various opportunities to take an active role in the EU and TÜBİTAK supported projects and gain experience in academic research. By collaborating with various research groups within the institute, students can conduct in-depth studies on EU policies, integration processes, international relations and other important issues in Europe.
  • The students have the opportunity to learn about current European issues and discuss different perspectives by the help of the conferences, seminars and panel discussions organized within the Institute.
  • Our students are also encouraged to actively participate in international student exchange programs and gain experience at other universities across Europe.
  • Yeditepe University is one of the most experienced foundation universities, with approximately 4000 current students and around 8000 graduates, offering 37 MA and 15 Ph.D. programs in the field of social sciences.
  • Up until now, 1797 master theses and 187 doctoral dissertations have been submitted by our graduates.
  • We offer our students a high-quality graduate education on a modern campus with 223,000 square meters of indoor area, 147 laboratories and 24 seminar rooms.

European Studies MA Degree Program with Thesis

European Studies MA program with thesis, plans to train graduates who have comprehensive knowledge on issues such as identity politics in the European Union, environmental and climate policies, foreign policy, political communication and media, integration, food and agriculture policies, urban design and zoning policies, innovation and digitalization policies. Multidisciplinary studies are encouraged in the program, and the courses are given in the above-mentioned areas and in many different areas related to EU policies.

The following conditions must be met in order to obtain a MA degree with thesis in European Studies:

  • Yeditepe University's European Studies MA program with thesis consists of at least 120 ECTS credits. The program includes at least seven different credit courses, scientific research methods course, seminar course and thesis work. According to these conditions, at least 60 ECTS credits must be taken in an academic year.
  • Yeditepe students can take courses (at most two) from different Institutes within Yeditepe University. In addition, a maximum of 2 courses can be taken from the equivalent graduate programs of other higher education institutions with the recommendation of the relevant institute and the approval of the Board of Directors. A student can enrol in a maximum of 36 ECTS courses in a semester.
  • In order for the students in the thesis program to be successful in the European Studies Master's Program, they must write their thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules determined by the Senate and defend it orally in front of the jury. After the thesis defense exam is completed, the student who is found successful by the jury is entitled to receive a master's degree with a thesis in European Studies.

Non- Thesis MA Degree Program of European Studies:

To obtain a non-thesis master's degree in European Studies, the following conditions must be met:

  • In order to receive their non-thesis master’s degree, the students enrolled in the Non-Thesis MA Program in European Studies, are expected to take and be successful in at least 10 courses, not less than 30 Yeditepe credits,
  • Preparing a term project and being successful in that project,
  • In addition, in order to graduate from this program, one must be successful by completing a total of 90 ECTS workload, 30 ECTS in each semester.

Application requirements for MA Programs:

  • A bachelor's degree from an institution with national and international equivalence.
  • A minimum score of 55 and above from any type of score in ALES for Master's programs with Thesis.
  • For English language proficiency, to have YÖKDİL entered in the last five years, 55 from YDS or 66 points from TOEFL entered in the last two years, or to graduate from an undergraduate program whose language of instruction is 100% English.

Yeditepe University European Studies MA Program is a graduate program that aims to provide students with an equipped academic environment to learn about and interpret various relations and policies of Europe, the European Union and related countries. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, a curriculum was created which can be followed by the students from different disciplines as well as social and political sciences.

European Studies MA program with thesis is a program that plans to train graduates with comprehensive knowledge on issues such as identity politics, environment and climate policies, foreign policy, political communication and media, integration, agricultural policies in the European Union, and provides a well-equipped environment and curriculum for this. Multidisciplinary studies are encouraged in the program, and courses are given in the above-mentioned areas and in many different areas related to European Union policies.

The duration of the MA program with thesis is two years. It is aimed that our students take courses in the first two semesters and write and defend their thesis in the last two semesters (third and fourth semesters).

Thesis and non-thesis MA degrees are offered in the field of European Studies.

No, the language of instruction of the European Studies thesis/non-thesis MA program is English.

Students in the program can do internship within their education if they wish.

Our graduates may have many different career opportunities in the public or private sector. They can find job opportunities in various ministries, international organizations, private companies and non-governmental organizations.

In our MA program with thesis, courses are offered in areas such as the European Union, international relations and scientific research methods. For example, the following courses are in the list of compulsory courses of the program.

●    It will be determined whether the scientific preparation will continue by looking at the undergraduate or graduate degrees of the students who have received an education other than Political Science, International Relations, and Public Administration. Students who will apply to the program are expected to meet the following conditions first.

Scholarship opportunities are available.

In the European Studies MA Program with Thesis, students in the thesis program must write their thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules determined by the Senate and defend it orally in front of the jury in order to be successful. After the thesis defense exam is completed, the student who is found successful by the jury is entitled to receive a master's degree with a thesis in European Studies. Non-thesis master's students, on the other hand, must prepare a term project and be successful in the term project.
At the same time, our students have the opportunity to participate closely and contribute to the research process in the projects of our faculty members.

Our students can continue their education in Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, European Studies, Cultural Studies and similar doctoral programs.
