Yeditepe University’s Digital Adaptation Project For Senior Citizens Above Age 65 Had Its Second Graduates

The digital adaptation project which became more extensive after the success of the first pilot work which had seven participants, excited its students who are above age 65 with a ceremony of certification.

With the cooperation of Yarenlik Yolu Platform and the department of Electronic Commerce and Management of Yeditepe University, the participants received 30 hours of training. 2 weeks of this training was conducted in the campus while 8 weeks were conducted online.

The undergraduate and graduate students of the department of Electronic Commerce and Management of Yeditepe University voluntarily educated people in order for them to develop their abilities about the use of websites such as e-state and e-pulse in addition to online shopping, online banking, sharing locations, video calls and the effective, safe and beneficial use of digital platforms.

“E,ADAPTATION PROJECT IS HEARTWORK”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Altan Kar, head of the Electronic Commerce and Management Department, who also spearheaded this project said that “E-Adaptation project is heartwork” during the certification ceremony which was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Sciences Prof. Dr. Rıfat Kamaşak. Kar said, "Throughout the training, among all the team members who took part in the project and the participants over the age of 65, a spiritual satisfaction was achieved and this was far above the purpose of gaining digital literacy skills when coupled with many moments and memories that touch the heart."

“I HAD A VERY ACTIVE AND ENJOYABLE FINAL TERM”

Kaan Eryücel, a senior student at the Department of Electronic Commerce and Management, who took part in the project, said, "I wanted to be in this project and to contribute to it. This questionwhether I would be able to accurately reflect what I knew in the digital environment to someone else was always on my mind. Thus I had a very active and enjoyable final term”.

“I WANTED TO LEARN EVEN IF I DIDN’T HAVE A CELPHONE”

Stating that she wanted to participate in this training despite not using a mobile phone, Hürrem Özbay said, "I didn't have a phone, I wanted to learn even if I didn't. I tried to get information from my friends, so I managed. My daughter bought me a birthday present phone call, and now I'm going to have a chance to apply what I've learned. My friends and my “yaren” Gonca will help me.

“THANKS TO THIS EDUCATION I AM SO HAPPY NOW THAT I CAN CONNECT WITH THE ENTIRE WORLD FROM THE COMFORT OF MY HOME”

Fatma Yücel, who participated in the certificate ceremony with her daughter also said that she loved these educational services and was delighted at the fact that she could connect with the entire world from the comfort of her home.

Osman Saygılı who said that his wife just passed away before his beginning of this education has said: “I’ve been going through hard times but thanks to you my morale is uplifted”.

The Digital Adaptation Project is to continue with new participants and now it has set its sights to reach out to various age groups with its increasing teaching positions and the possible cooperations with the municipalities all around Turkey.
